Description: With the name “Colle Brianza” (that sounds like “Brianza Hill”) cyclists generally mean the road that from Dolzago leads to Villa Vergano, passing through the fraction of Piecastello (approximately 536 m AMSL ). The road, about 4 km long, is characterized by a quite regular slope, with medium value of 6%. Near the half of the climb, in a locality called “Brianzola”, there’s a short plain part. The “Colle Brianza” has often been inserted in the “Giro di Lombardia” – a very popular bicycle race – and you can always meet a lot of people fond of bike on this road, also thanks to its relative low difficulty and to the beauty of the woods in which it is dipped. For the return journey, we propose you to descend Galbiate side, with wide sight on the branch of Lecco of Lario (that Manzoni cited in his famous romance “I promessi sposi”: “…quel ramo del Lago di Como che volge a Mezzogiorno…”), on the Adda River and the Garlate Lake.

Road Book: At the beginning of the proposed tour you have to head for the Segrino Lake (southwards), and you’ll have to go along its shores until its ending. When you’ll reach the crossroads you have to follow the indication to Pusiano. Turning on the left following this indication, you’ll keep go along the lake shores until the roundabout near the locality called “Punt di Nacc”, where it is necessary to keep the left towards Pusiano. This country, that you’ll reach after a descent characterized by a low slope and by some hairpin curves, is placed on the coast of the Pusiano Lake, also nominated in the famous Segantini verses with the name of “Eupili me”. Here it is necessary to turn on the left at the traffic light and follow the indications for Lecco. When you’ll arrive next the border line that separates Cesana Brianza and Suello it is necessary to leave the main road turning on the right and following the indications to Annone and Oggiono. Beyond the bridge that crosses the two-lane highway SS36, a long straight stretch will lead you until the built-up area of Oggiono. Here it is necessary to follow the main road and at the roundabouts always follow the indications to Dolzago. In this way you’ll take the main road that leads southwards, in Casatenovo direction, and it is necessary to follow it for about 500 metres, until the roundabout where you can find the indications to the centre of Dolzago and for Colle Brianza. These indications will make you turn on the left, and the climb to Colle Brianza will begin. Once you’ll have reached the top, always following the main road, you’ll pass through the built-up area of Villa Vergano and you will begin the descent towards Galbiate. When you reach this last town you’ll find a little roundabout, where it is necessary to keep going straight on until the traffic light, where you have to turn on the right, towards Lecco. The road begins to go down again and shortly time will carry you to on the shores of Lario. When you’ll meet the main road that connects Lecco to Milan, is necessary at the roundabout to turn on the left following the indications to Lecco and Malgrate. After about a hundred metres you’ll find another roundabout where it is necessary to turn on the left in Malgrate direction. Overstepped the traffic light (keep going straigt on) where it is possible (turning on the right) to cross the “Old Bridge” that leads in the centre of Lecco, you’ll meet another big roundabout, near the “New Bridge”. Here it is necessary to turn leftwards and to take the two-lane road following the indications to Erba. Such road has to be followed until its end, that coincides with the entrance in the SS36 highway. You’ll have to follow this higway for the short part (allowed to bikes) that is necessary to reach the exit to Erba, near Suello. From this point you have to always go straight on, crossing the towns called Suello and Cesana Brianza. In Pusiano you’ll find a traffic light, where it is necessary to turn to the right, towards Canzo.
